India's victory push in Sydney to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy was hit by a massive blow with stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah leaving the ground for scans with the Indian team's support staff and doctor in the second session of the second day at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday, January 4. India’s stand-in captain took the field after Lunch but left shortly after bowling just one over, with Virat Kohli taking charge.

Bumrah has picked up 32 wickets already in the series, and had figures of 2/33 in ten overs, having removed Australia’s No.3 Marnus Labuschagne in the first session.

After managing just one over in the second session, Bumrah was spotted feeling a bit of discomfort, which appeared to be a side strain.

However, he left the field after having a brief chat with Kohli, and then official broadcasters showed him leaving the ground.

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma put all the retirement rumours to bed, and cleared things following his non-selection for the fifth and final Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney.

This is not a decision to retire, nor am I stepping away from the game," Rohit said on Star Sports.

"I've stood down for this match because I wasn't scoring runs with the bat at the moment," he added.

India have Australia on the brink, as Australia are currently 170/9, still trailing by 15 runs.

"It is a great honour to be nominated for the FIH Player of the Year Award again99bet," the Indian defender stated in a Hockey India release.
