Defending champions Brisbane Heat defeated David Warner-led Sydney Thunder by five wickets, thanks to a powerful knock of 72 by Max Bryant in the 25th match of the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 at The Gabba, Brisbane on Monday (January 663win, 2025). (More Cricket News)

Earlier, Brisbane Heat captain Colin Munro won the toss and decided to field against Warner-led Sydney Thunder. Warner scored 50 as his side posted formidable 173 in 20 overs.

In reply, the hosts lost wickets at regular intervals and at 43/3, it seemed all hope was lost. However, Bryant joined forces with Matt Renshaw (48) to revive their innings as they surged ahead in the game.

Bryant's innings of 72 included four sixes and seven fours that included a massive six. Despite some late wickets, Heat held firm and won the game with ease.

Hannan Shahid was named the hero of the match for his spectacular double. Pakistan's five goals, which decisively thrashed China in Hulunbuir, have secured their place in the semi-finals of the Asian Champions Trophy 2024, where they join India. This sets up the potential for an India vs. Pakistan final, though the two teams will first face off in their fifth match on Saturday.

One did not realise the enormity of this feat. Harmanpreet is basically a defensive midfielder in footballing parlance and to score 200 goals, is truly a great achievement.

The Colin Munro-led Heat are the current BBL champions. This win was their third this season, and the 2012-13 and 2023-24 champions will look to build on this victory.
